Ingredients for 1 feta cheese:
- 1 pack of puff pastry (refrigerated shelf, rolled up)
- 1 feta cheese (approx. 200g)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Minos extra virgin olive oil
- Sprinkle sesame seeds
- a few sprigs of thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
Preparation time: approx. 35 minutes
Difficulty level: easy
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Roll out the puff pastry and place it on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Place all the feta cheese in the center of the puff pastry.
- Sprinkle the feta cheese with fresh thyme and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cut the puff pastry at the corners of the feta to the side and upwards.
- Fold the resulting rectangles of the narrow sides of the feta over the feta and cover it with them.
- Cut the rectangles on the long sides of the feta into finger-thick strips and place them alternately over the feta, overlapping. (You can see the exact technique in the video linked below.)
- Press the edges together well to ensure the feta is enclosed.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and brush the top of the puff pastry with it.
- Spread sesame seeds evenly over the egg-oil coating and add a few thyme leaves on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- Allow to cool slightly before cutting into portions and serving. The melted feta in the puff pastry will be hot, so be careful when eating.
Tip: You can easily make some delicious puff pastry sticks out of leftover puff pastry. Simply cut strips, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with your choice of spices. Twist the strips and place in the oven until they are golden brown and crispy.
